Speaking and teaching
I teach how power markets work to the people who have to make decisions inside them. If that is useful to your programme, the topics below are where I am most useful.
Topics
What a production cost model actually does
Unit commitment and economic dispatch from first principles. What the solver is minimising, what the constraints represent physically, and where the abstraction starts to matter.
Why two credible forecasts disagree
A structured way to take a price deck apart: gas, load growth, build, retirements, transmission, reserve margin. Which inputs carry the result, and which questions actually change your posture toward the answer.
Reading a price deck like a risk manager
What a P50 is and is not, what shaping and basis do to a headline number, and how a long-dated curve behaves once it is inside a project finance model.
Resource adequacy without the arithmetic theatre
Reserve margin, ELCC, accreditation, and the difference between a resource that exists and a resource that shows up on the worst evening of the year.
Market design, compared
ERCOT against the organised capacity markets. What each design is trying to buy, what it pays for, and how those choices show up in prices and in build.
Congestion and basis for people who are not traders
Why the same megawatt is worth different amounts in different places, how nodal price differences form, and what that means for siting and offtake.
Formats
- Conference talk
- 25–45 minutes, technical audience, no product pitch.
- Workshop
- Half day or full day. Works best capped around 25 people, with cases.
- Internal training
- For teams who consume model output but do not build it — commercial, credit, policy, investment.
- Panel or moderation
- Happy to moderate. I prepare, and I will ask the follow-up.
Inviting me
Email speaking@powerfundamentals.com with the audience, the date, the format, and how long you want. If it is a training session, tell me what the room already knows — that changes the material more than the topic does.
I speak in a personal capacity. I do not present client work, and I do not use a teaching slot as a sales slot.
